Legend has it that black curassows were used to smuggle gold right under the noses of the concession owners. The prospectors often walked with a black curassow and claimed to keep the animal as a pet. Like the magpie, the black curassow likes to consume shiny snacks. While dribbling around, such a pet collected a nice collection of gold nuggets and gold dust in its stomach. When the workers went on leave, they took their pets with them. The black curassow disappeared into the cooking pot and the contents of his stomach ended up in the pockets of the “loving” owner.
