Project Description

Macaws, also called raven in Suriname, can be found everywhere in Suriname, but near inhabited places they are quite rare, not only in the entire coastal area but also in the eastern half of Suriname. You see them most often when they fly to their roost in pairs. You often look at them from below and you do not see the colors. But you can recognize them by their sound, a raw cry (a) raa… Their name, “raaf” but also “ara” (in dutch), probably derives from that sound.
